HOW TO UNINVITE A GUEST

It’s sad to admit, but some relationships don’t survive until the event day. Some guests also automatically assume they are entitled to a plus one. Sometimes when it comes to paying invoices, hosts realised they can’t afford to invite as many people. Regardless of the cause, here are some tips on how to uninvited someone from your event.

  1. REACH OUT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER

Keep in mind that changes to vendor bookings may not be possible so close to your event date. Doing it sooner will help prevent incurring additional costs.

Similarly, the longer you leave it, the heavier it’s going to weigh on you.

  2. OFFER AN EXPLANATION FOR WHY YOU’RE UNINVITING THEM

Whether it’s because you can’t afford it, or you aren’t as close, it’s important to be honest about your reason for uninviting someone. Providing a reason will give them insight into your situation and likely lead to understanding.

  3. APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE/MISUNDERSTANDING

Sometimes guests have already purchased outfits, taken time off work, booked flights and accomodation, so it’s important to acknowledge the impact your decision has on them too.

  4. KNOW THAT YOU’VE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE

It’s never easy uninviting someone and often you’re left feeling guilty after doing it. Just remember this is your event not theirs. You deserve to enjoy your day.
